Graduation Project: Sheltering the Collective
The research into the vernacular built environment of Folegandros was a guideline during my design project. I attempted to balance the tradition of the local environment, as it is valued by the residents, with a modern and progressive take in design. New modern technique and contemporary values and expectations will help improve the local conditions to the fullest.
The primary objective of the design process was to explore the unique sensual identity of the site (genius loci) and through this exploration create a complementary dialogue between the intervention and the existing condition. I aimed to create events and experiences that spring from the powerful presence of the landscape, rather than designing a building that appropriates it.
